The Team

The six associated partners form a team with varied and complementary competencies. They have a longstanding experience in working together in the field of agro-food supply chains and quality sign development. They draw their expertise from extensive practical experience in Switzerland, in several other European countries and abroad.

Dominique Barjolle
Financial manager, Project coordinator
Senior researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ), leader of "food chains". Between 2002 and 2010, she has been the director of the Swiss Association for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas (AGRIDEA), Lausanne.

Within REDD Ltd., Dominique manages projects related to good agricultural practices in the Balkans, carries out expertises for FAO in the field of voluntary standards and geographical indications. She co-facilitates the training on agricultural policy.

She is also active in REDD Association as an accountant and committee member of a political party, the PDC Lausanne.

Pascal Bernardoni
External relations manager, Project coordinator
Pascal, graduated in agricultural engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ), worked primarily on technical cooperation projects in Africa, Latin America, the Balkans and the Caucasus. His experiences in overseas countries were particularly concentrated on the design, planning and evaluation of rural development projects, as well as training programs and self-learning of various local development actors.

Since 1999, Pascal has continued his career in the Balkans and the Caucasus, where he managed a number of projects and assumed the position of office manager for the FAO. His activities are centered on the growth of food networks and, more recently, on the development of geographical indication systems. Pascal has been for the past five years, director of SEEDEV, a consulting firm resident in Belgrade (Serbia) and Zagreb (Croatia), active in many development projects on agriculture and rural areas. 

 

Corinne Couillerot
Director, Project coordinator
Corinne was director of a certification body during 8 years. As head of the OIC, a business with a turnover of one million CHF, she managed a team of 37 persons. She has organized numerous training of auditors and was responsible for the implementation of European standards for certification and control.

She has also intervened as expert for the FAO and the Swiss Institute of Intellectual Property. She formed the National Commissions of Moroccan and Jamaican GIs.
She is currently associated partner and project manager at REDD Ltd and assumes the director position from January 2011 to December 2012. She conducts trainings related to geographical indications, agro-food quality, quality assurance standards and control and certification of these products. She is a member of the Federal Commission of AOC-IGP Switzerland.

Besides her work, Corinne likes to climb mountains and skiing during the winter. She is also happy when she gardens and takes time with her family. She tries to travel once per year in a new country to discover new traditions, meals, culture and people.

Peter Damary
Computing manager, Project coordinator
Peter studied agricultural engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) and has obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Geneva University. After a few years being involved in the development of Organic agriculture in Eastern Europe (including 2 years in Bulgaria), he worked on numerous projects linking agriculture and biodiversity.

Since 2003, he has been working on supply chains with a strong link to their origin, through research (Sus-chain, SINER-GI), consultancies and projects, both in Switzerland and internationally.  He has developed training modules for an international audience in close collaboration with numerous partners, including the FAO.

He is an associated partner of REDD Ltd. and is responsible for the development of the training activities.  He is involved in numerous consultancies on products linked to their origin (both the institutional and legal set-up and the supply chain coordination), in as varied places as Algeria, Croatia and Western Africa as well as in project management functions (Bulgaria, Poland).

Combining work and pleasure, Peter loves to discover new food where he travels and to share these with family and friends. He also enjoys walking in the mountains around Geneva (to shed the extra pounds gained through discovering food), sailing on the lake Geneva, and discovering new places with his wife and 2 children. He is interested in renewable energy and has built solar panels on his family home.

Astrid GERZ
Human Resources manager, Project coordinator
Astrid studied horticultural engineering in Germany and obtained a Master of Science in Agricultural Development (spezialisation: agro-food qualification) from the National Center of agricultural studies (CNEARC, nowadays IRC) in Montpellier (France). She has ten years experience in coordinating various rural development projects in West Africa, namely in the field of natural resource management and agricultural biodiversity, organizational development and capacity building of various groups, especially women organizations.

For several years she had been the advisor on Gender Mainstreaming approaches for the German development cooperation in Burkina Faso.

As an independent consultant based in Montpellier (France), she carried out impact assessments, socio-economic analysis, studies and trainings for various international research and development agencies.

In Switzerland since 2009, she had been among others the director of a sub-regional mark for promoting regional food specialities (produits du terroir).

She is currently associated partner, responsible for human resources and project manager at REDD Ltd. She is responsible for the international training program on agricultural policies for small-scaled farm systems. Her current activities also include the co-organization and facilitation of trainings and conferences as well as carrying out studies on Geographical Indications.

Local and tasty food is also a personal concern. Astrid likes to visit local markets and farms and discovering thus products and people. Cooking is one of her passions and she enjoys preparing tasty and varied dishes, inventing new recipes with seasonal ingredients for her son and friends. She loves traveling, visiting her friends all over the world and spending time with her family in Germany. She likes walking and playing tennis, but only when it’s sunny.

Anna Perret
Communication and marketing manager, Project coordinator
Anna holds a Master in Environmental Sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). She has six years experience in training engineering and project work in the field of voluntary standards and quality labels for agro-food products, especially Geographical Indications. She was involved in the European research project SINER-GI.

She is currently associated partner and project manager at REDD Ltd. She is responsible for the interGI training program on Geographical Indications and for the activities aimed at the general public like the REDD cultural trips. She also works on a technical assistance project in the Balkans related to the introduction of Geographical Indications and other food standards.

Besides her work, Anna likes to prepare tasty meals with the fruits and vegetables from her organic garden or basket she receives once a week from a local cooperative. She is an outdoor person and loves going on long walks with her children along the lake Geneva or in the close by countryside. When she gets a chance, she goes off to the USA to visit her family or to other parts of the world she likes to explore.

Alizée Ehrnrooth
Project assistant
Alizée graduated in Economic and Social History (University of Geneva, 2007) and then obtained in 2009 her master degree in Development Studies at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID, Geneva).

Since her master thesis « Between discourses and field realities : a participative approach to rural development strategy in Niger », her research interests have focused on agricultural policies and rural development in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially Niger, the assessment of irrigation development programs and the topic of participation and empowerment of local actors and farmers organizations. 

 

She is currently working within REDD Ltd. on a project which aims to promote and support local small-scale irrigation in Niger (PADIP, DDC). 

 
Bojana Mihovski Karalic
Project assistant
Bojana graduated at the Faculty of Agriculture (University of Belgrade, Serbia) in July 2007 (department for food technology). After three years of working in the food industry in Serbia, she went to Switzerland and completed her master studies at Bern University of Applied Science (Department for Management of Value Chain), with the Master thesis “Certification in the Western Balkans: integrated approach to a more competitive food sector."

She is currently project assistant at REDD Ltd, working on a technical assistance project in the Balkans related to the introduction of voluntary standards and Geographical Indications. Moreover, she is working for FAO on the review of voluntary standards in Serbia. 

 

Markus Lüthi
Member of REDDs Ltd. Management Board and Secretary of REDD association
Markus studied Anthropology, German and Journalism at the University of Bern. After traveling several years in South America, Asia and Europe, he started organic farming on his family farm in Western Switzerland. He has a deep know-how and practical skills gained during his 20-year experience in international cooperation and consultancy. Focus are all questions linked to sustainable agriculture. His areas of expertise cover production, rural tourism, marketing and value chains.

Associated experts

Stéphane Boisseaux
Stephane holds a PhD in Political Science. He is currently a lecturer in public policy, both at the IDHEAP and the University of Lausanne.

He is also the operational manager of a research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, which deals with the regulation of cultural heritage through policy instruments such as UNESCO certification or PDOs-PGIs. He also co-founded a certification body accredited against Standard ISO 65 for agricultural products with a Geographical Indication.

His research interests are public and environmental policies, PDOs and PGIs, cultural heritage, urban and regional studies.

 

 

Jean-Pierre Boutonnet
Jean-Pierre holds a PhD in Human Geography and a MSc in Agriculture and Rural Economics. He is researcher and technical advisor at the French National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA)

His expertise covers commodity chain analysis, economics of animal production, marketing of animal products (mainly sheep and goat meat as well as dairy products). He is expert for product qualification and geographical indications within the French Ministry of Agriculture and INAO (French PDO and PGI – cooperation with Romania, Kosovo, etc.), the World Bank (Tunisia), the FAO (Mediterranean countries) and European Union (Algeria).

 

Martine Jaques-Dufour
President of REDDs Ltd. Management Board
Martine has a master degree in geography science. She has long experience in consumer surveys and in promoting regional and PDO/PGI labels in Switzerland.

She took part in the program FAIR 95-306 and in the Dolphins research program. She had been the executive manager of the Swiss Association for PDO and PGI promotion activities. She has thus in-depth knowledge of PDO/PGI registration requirements and practice in setting-up the code of practices. Since 2006 she is active in the marketing and advertising sector at MIGROS in Valais, one of Switzerlands' largest supermarket chains. 

Ronald Jaubert
Ronald holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the National School of Applied Agronomic Sciences (ENSSAA). He is Professor for Development Studies at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and Professor at the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment (University of Lausanne).

His research focuses on agricultural policies, water management, desertification and pastoralism in the Middle East, North Africa and the Sahel. 

His areas of expertise cover: 

• Agriculture, land and rural development, pastoralism

• Development, cooperation and aid policies, agricultural policies, desertification

• Natural resources, extractive economy, commodities

• Sustainable development

• Water Management

 
He is collaborating with REDD on the training "agricultural policies promoting small farming systems" (POL-AGRI). 
Martine Zaouche
Member of REDDs Ltd. Management Board
Martine is graduated Agro-food engineer and holds a Master of psychology from the University of Paris V Sorbonne.

Martine is working for GEM, a private company based in France and specialized in studies and strategies for agro-food. She is the director of studies and thus in charge of market studies, supply chain analysis, consumers behavior in European countries in various agro-food sectors (fruit and processed fruit, meat, milk, organic food....).

Monique Bagal
Monique owns a Master from the law university of Bordeaux and is graduated of the Institute of Political studies in international cooperation and development of southern countries. After an experience within the High Commissioner for Human Rights (Geneva), she has worked as a consultant for various organizations involved in trade and development.

Monique has participated in several seminars on geographical indications and in publications relating the subject. She is currently enrolled in a PhD on the issue of GIs and Human Rights. Recently she worked within REDD on drafting a report on the situation of GI approaches in OAPI member states.

 
Koffi Emmanuel Gle
Emmanuel studied agricultural sciences and economics at the University of Rennes (France) and at the University of Lomé (Togo). In 2010, he received his Ph.D. in agricultural economics. He is currently based in Lomé as an independent consultant and collaborates with REDD on projects aimed at implementing GIs in Africa.

 His core competencies include:

 

- Analysis and support & advice: agricultural policies, food security, social protection and nutrition,

- Strategic planning and result based management in the sectors of agriculture, environment and climate change,

- Research related to economics of quality, industrial and development economics, agricultural policies, trade and marketing of food products.

 

Josip Jagust
Currently he is running SEEDEV Croatia, and is working on a number of rural and agribusiness sustainability projects. His experience and expertise is in in corporate sustainability management and in rural and local institutional sustainable development capacity-building.
Dragana Tar
Associated partner of SEEDEV, she has 10 years work experience in international development assistance framework. Knowledge of policy development, evaluation cycle and PCM. Long experience in local and rural development programming. Extensive experience as a trainer.
Goran Živkov
Graduated from the faculty of Agriculture (University of Belgrade). Extensive experience in policy making and strategy planning in the field of agriculture and rural development. Long experience in providing institutional TA in Serbia and abroad. Extensive experience as a trainer.
